Hi

My name is Lucy I’m new to this Forum

I am an expat living in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area & have been here since 99
Got married to a USGC (was previously married & have Green Card Etc.. )

In 5 months we are getting deployed to Hawaii ..

Is there an expat community there does anyone have any advice?

By deployed I assume you mean military. If you are living on base you'll have the usual military network I guess. Off base be aware Hawaii is no paradise, locals often resent outsiders (haole). It's also pretty expensive as a place to be.

Went there on holiday this year, 9 nights on The Big Island and 7 on Oahu, loved every minute. Living there will obviously be different from vacationing but eating out was expensive and grocery shopping was expensive (we were self catering on The Big Island) but I am sure you will find the local places with the best prices. I found the people very friendly and welcoming, would love to get the chance to live there, even for a little while.

I am so envious. Hawaii is my favourite place in the world...I was there last month.

Which island are you moving to...Oahu?

Which island? Hawaii is expensive, the public schools are pretty bad and after a few months you start to notice how small the place is. I've spent time on the Big Island,,,,,,,and it felt small pretty quickly.

We are moving to Oahu.

He is military but we will not be living on base.

Fabulous. All the very best to you. Over the years we have had a few people whose military spouses have been stationed in Oahu join BE. They didn't stay around the forums very long...too busy enjoying Paradise I guess. How long are you there for?

So from the lack of responses in this thread, could one assume that there are no BE members in Hawaii currently?
