Default Moving to Dallas

I am considering transfering to Dallas after living in New York for nearly 9 years. I have 2 children 6 and 4 so a good school area is important within a commutable distance from DFW. Can anyone give me advise on life style and suggestions for good areas to live?

We live in Mansfield. Without traffic, it's about 25 mins to DFW.

Schools are good.

It's a nice area to live. Very safe etc. Are you moving from NYC?

I am currently on Long Island but the taxes and cost of living is getting tiresome. The Texas lifesyle definitely seems appealing.

Plano schools are great (very highly ranked in the nation) and the whole of DFW will seem absurdly cheap in comparison to where you are!

Down side is that anywhere that's safe and has good schools is dull as dishwater... all the interesting places downtown tend to have high crime rates and crap schools.

Plano is also a good area. I work there.

Commute times to DFW would be about the same, depending on your schedule.

Certainly, more dollar value here than Long Island.

Never been to Long Island, but you may find suburban Dallas, well a little more suburban than you are used too.

Depends what you want. Fort Worth has a great vibrant downtown at night.

I like it here, there are some good places to raise a family.

Good point. Although I have never felt unsafe in either downtown Dallas or Fort Worth, schools in the burbs tend to be better.
