Moving to Charlotte, NC

Re: Moving to Charlotte, NC
I wouldn't recommend most of Charlotte. The far SW area around the Palisades, that you already found, is a good area, and the south of Charlotte between I77 to the west and Hwy74 to the east is a good area but is expensive. Around I485 on the south side is Balantyne, which is also a nice area, but apart from that Charlotte is generally best avoided.
To the west of Charlotte, Belmont is OK, but there isn't much beyond that to the west that I would recommend, and on the north side you need to go as far as Cornelius and Huntersville before I would recommend anything.
While there are some nice areas in SC, the commute up I77 to Wilkinson Blvd is going to be pretty horrible if your husband has a conventional 8am-5pm work day.

Baxter is a great community, I have loads of friends who live there. The houses have much more of a British feel to them (closer together). I'm in Tega Cay just down the road, there are a lot of great neighbourhoods to choose from. My husband commutes to near the airport on the i77 or 160 and it really isn't that bad, it just depends what you are used to.
