Moving to Atl GA
Hello all,
I've just stumbled across this site and I'm hooked!
Just the sort of thing I've been looking for.
My family and I are relocating to the US (my husband's work)and I am very very scared!
It's still very cold here in London but the first fragrant spring blooms are out! I have so many questions to ask I'm not sure where to start! Is there a fairly large British ex pat community in Atlanta?
I've been trying to look online; can you get a regular online shop in the US? Similar to how tesco etc does it?
I'd be grateful for any responses!

Hi there welcome to the group,
lots of expats of all nationalities living all over Atlanta, which means you can get stuff from home from all over the world. Rumour has it at least 75,000 Brits, there are 2 specialist British stores Norcross and Marietta with nothing but expensive imports, there is no on-line shopping like Tesco or Sainsbury's, the largest grocery chains here are Kroger and Publix both of which have small British food selections depending on the store.
Ask away no doubt someone else can help you with specific questions.

My son lives in Atlanta so I know a tiny bit about it.
He (though only half English!) loves Marmite and has found it in a store close to where he lives! It's hard to find in many places in US, so that bodes well.
Many parts of Atlanta, apparently, are not very walkable, and you need to take your car to go shopping in a strip mall or whatever. But one area that is walkable, with lovely neighborhood shops and restaurants, is called Virginia Highland. This is a great place to live....I don't know where your husband's job will be, though, or whether you have already decided where you're living.

I'll keep a passive eye on this as I've a friend who works down there and mentioned a art job going...but I'm so not interested in the relocation for a none hubbed industry area, there's literally only one big company down there in my field with another small company and my mate works in a related field but not exactly something I'd be happy working in.
