Moved in to new home
I posted recently about the shutdown causing problems with my new house move - luckily it all went ahead and we are now in.
I compared the price I paid to what would be available from where I moved from in England ( Bracknell, Berks). Nothing for that price.
I could have got a 1 bedroom flat in a scummy part of town for another GBP 17,000 on top of what I paid for this 1 acre property with own pond
Typing this as I sit looking out over MY pond, fall coloured trees in the background and totally happy I made the move

Very nice, lot of leaves to sweep up which should keep you busy for some time.

Unless you have your back to an abattoir and a trash dump, I'd say that looks quite idyllic.

Awesome, congratulations!
It's crazy isn't it?! I am from Maidenhead, Berks and my house here is cheaper than my 2 bed maisonette was there...!

Housing prices vary considerably throughout the U.S.
Just saying. I recall a magazine article back in the 70's showing what $100,000 would get you [when that was "real money" in housing terms].
House #1 was the mansion on the lake and an estate -- in Arkansas
House #2 was a 3 bedroom in an upper middle class Chicago neighborhood.
Property #3 was a vacant lot in Beverly Hills.

Congratulations, it looks very nice.
We went through a similar thought process about what we had in London v what we bought here, originally 4x the house, double garage (v on-street parking) and 100x the land area; we later added another 65x the land area.
I wish I had your pond, it looks very nice. Does it have any fish in it? We have a lot of wildlife including a daily migration of deer every evening at dusk.

One of the reasons I chose Michigan was because I knew I could afford to buy an amazing property here - didn't think it would be so quick and easy though!
( 16 months I've been here then spent a couple of weeks looking and got lucky )

The property behind our pond is 6 acres that the owner lets go wild so there are deer there

Lovely! Very similar to our pond, although slightly more peaceful than ours which has 8 gorgeous white ducks on it and usually the kids messing around in the shallows or canoeing across it! And I'm just down the road from your old stomping ground, nr Wokingham.

Congratulations. In the winter, the pond will become an ice skating rink. Post pictures skating on it during the winter if you don't mind shoveling the snow off it.

Re: Moved in to new home
My new house is 6 times the size of my last apartment in Europe, at around 95% of what I paid for it in 2001. Property taxes are also 10 times as much...
