More Time To Sell My Stuff
Folks:
My extended H1B is scheduled to expire in a few weeks. Unfortunately, I still have lots of my stuff to sell - computer equipment especially. Should I ask the INS for some more time (probably a few months) to sell my things before making a gracefully departure ? If so, how can this be done ? Thanks, John. |
Re: More Time To Sell My Stuff
I believe you have 2 weeks past the end date of your H1B visa to leave the
country... and then, you would get a ban of 1 year only if you would overstay for more than 3 months I believe ... or is it 6 months... In any case, you have some time pass the end date of your visa... Contacting a lawyer would help if you still unsure on what to do... And then, ebay is here to sell quickly computer stuffs... Yes. You should certainly keep your record squeaky clean in the current immigration environment. Don't plan to stay in the U.S. beyond the end of your I-94, and don't stay more than a few days after going off the payroll, if there is time left on the I-94. > If so, how can this be done ? File an I-539 asking for change from H-1B to B-2, and ask for perhaps 2 months of B-2 status. Write a letter explaining why. Wrapping up your affairs before returning home is a valid reason for B-2 status. Keep a full file copy, proof of receipt by USCIS, and the I-797 receipt notice for the I-539 in your records indefinitely. |
