Default More Security Scares in the UK

Just started to get family phone calls saying Birmingham city centre is being evacuated.

Hope it turns out to be a hoax.

You and me both. I don't know anyone in Birmingham (regardless I hope everyone is safe!) but I don't want to see anything go further north either.

Evacuating the "entertainment district", apparently. I don't envy the police having the task of trying to get thousands of pissed up Brummies out of the all pubs before closing time.

Thanks. He's still at work so I don't know if he knows anything about it. Have to leave now and pick him up.

BAllan Sartori, a Birmingham club owner, said police appeared to have the situation under control in the city centre.

He said evacuating the city centre would have cost "a lot of people a lot of money".

But he added: "People's lives are far more important than money in a situation like this."

Very magnanimous of him.
