More FBAR fun...
 

So three days ago, I find out about FBAR.

Yesterday I find out that filing doesn't go by the postmark date.

So e-file it is.

2012 done. But now I'm looking at how to QD the previous 5 years. I've seen recommendations (including on this site) to send in the forms with a cover letter explaining that it was not a willful non-filing and to cross fingers.

But

From 1st Jul, e-filing is mandatory and there's no place on the e-file for cover letters, explanations or anything.

So what's a guy to do? Just send in paper forms and leave em to it? It seems like e-filing without some kind of pleading possible is a recipe for disaster. At least if they require me to re-file with e-file, they'll have at least seen the cover letter, right?

Just a stressed out minnow watching the whales swim by without a care...
