Default Money Transfer UK to US

Ok, so we are in the US now ! Yay

But we didn't get all our cash from UK. Left it in the bank, and thought we could get it wired through services like HiFx.

HiFx just told me that they can't provide their service to anyone in US.

......Unfortunately, due to changes in US legislation in November 2011, HiFX are no longer able to offer our international money transfer services to anyone located in the United States (USA).....

ABove is what they replied.....

So how does on get money from UK to US if the legislation doesn't allow services like HiFx to do so !

I use xe.com, others have used Worldfirst. It may depend on which state you are in as they are not registered in all states.

I have received excellent service from TorFX. The only disadvantage is that the service does not operate on-line. You have to call them.

i have used paypal and its not that bad, if you use your debit card for transfer charges are higher than if you do it as an e cheque. takes a few days to a week to transfer depending on which method you use

Even though I have a US address I used to use HiFx until I received a similar email last year.

These days I use XE.com

Hi Avlm24,

Do you still have an address registered in the UK?

If you have a UK address still, we can facilitate any payments you need to make form the UK to the US.

We do not charge to make the transfer and we have a guarantee in place to beat any exchange rate on the market.

You will also have your own trading platform you can log into to make transfers from the US a lot easier.

We also have a special British Expats offer on as well for all BE users giving you your first transfer through us at cost price meaning we don't profit from the trade just so that you can try us out .

Hi sir_eccles,

When you say licenced in the US I take it you mean to deal with citizens residing in the US that do not have a registered address outside of the States?

Unfortunately we cannot facilitate transfers for clients yet that do not have a registered address outside of the States because of the regulations the US bought in a couple of years ago. Other than that, we deliver Dollars to the US on a daily basis for a large number of clients that have a registered address outside of the US and have been doing so for nearly ten years

Can't you transfer it from your UK bank account to your US account? I do that and it takes 3-5 days and costs £10 to do via my online banking.

The exchange rate will be substantially worse than available through the currency exchange specialists.
