Mobile query: US SIM card providers
 

Hi all! Just landed in the US and I would be grateful for suggestions as to which US mobile service provider is a good choice here.
When I was based in Europe, I had a dual sim so was able to keep my UK number which was brilliant. The European provider ended up provided my in-home wifi and tv package too - so hopeful that there will be similar options here.
Basically, I think a pay monthly SIM would be a good option, but really grateful for any of your top tips! Thanks all in advance.

I use Mint which is brilliant - $15 a month for 15GB. ESim so I have both my UK and US numbers on the same phone and just toggle between the two.

I use Visible. I'm grandfathered in at $25 a month. I think new customers may be $30 now, but they have a special running for $25. Unlimited everything and this includes taxes and fees. The service runs on the Verizon network. Use Rakuten to click in through their site and get cash back. I find you can get lots of family deals, especially on annual plans, but it's harder to find a good deal for a single phone.

Thank you so much. They sound brilliant and I looked into it but I have an Android - and this only works on iPhones, which is a shame. And the price is FAB!

Visible works with Androids - they sell them on their website. I believe I may be able to send a referral code which can get you an initial discount if you need and if I can find where it is :)

Full disclosure - I benefit from this if you use the link. But with or without a referral, these 2 are great choices. Join Rakuten first. It's a click through website or app - you can also just add a browser extension. Absolutely no catch, but you accrue a small percentage of cash back in your account and they pay out quarterly. Often have great %s on weekends and holidays. You just have to be careful about where you browse after activating the offer bc it can invalidate the cash back. And using other coupons sometimes will negate the offer, but I've had $100s back in the past few years (and I don't spend hugely. Also, if you buy something in a store, and you see the price drop a few days later, you can usually go back in with your receipt within 30 days and they will refund the difference. Returns are much easier too. I still go in offering apologies, but they're usually not interested and just refund without complaint. Costco is especially great about returns. Even if you just don't like the taste of something! Welcome to America!!

Cheers USADragon as a Northerner now in the land of the (not so) free I love a good offer! And I think you deserve the benefit for this great advice, - plus I have to get used to tipping for everything everywhere, so this forum should be no exception! I'll give it a go later, so hopefully your tip will follow! ( And this tipping business will be a whole other post I'm sure!)

My recommendation is to ask people a) at your office and b) near where you live. The greatest plan in the country is worthless if it doesn't work in your home or office, and there are plenty of micro-level issues with service (hills, big buildings, lack of towers) that can affect your service.

Many thanks. My phone, although not that old, is incompatible apparently with many providers and I am unable to take advantage of the eSIM. For others who may be in the same boat, I got another SIM, to use in the second sim slot, from AT&T on a rolling basis but it is costly. I need to figure out how I retain my UK number and maybe upgrade to a new phone here. What I wish I had done, again for those who may be in a similar position, is to upgrade my phone in the UK ( much cheaper) before arriving here.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing!
