Default Michigan Teen Creates Fusion Device

"..."The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Thiago Olson, a 17 year old Michigan teen, was able to create a small fusion device in his parents' basement. The machine uses a 40,000 volt charge and deuterium gas to create the small reaction, which he says looks like a 'small intense ball of energy.' The teen's fusion device is obviously not a self-sustaining reactor, but it still shows how fusion technology is becoming more accessible. Hopefully this points to a future where large scale fusion reactors are both economical and widely used."..."

So what is it with these cold, quiet places?

Anyway, so what are kids getting up to in your neck of the woods?

Where we use to live, most went skate boarding as there were a few skate parks, except in winter...as for current place, don't know what they get up too, don't see them except on halloween....

they're all playing skateboarding games and learning how to hurt themselves or others while their parents drink long island iced tea's in the living room.

Because building a fusion reactor in the basement is completely sensible

I would assume that there is very little current. At least until he shorts it out on something. FWIW you could probably get a good 20 kV blast off a carpet on a cold dry day.

well my neck of the woods is Detroit

so I guess my answer would be fusion devices in basements.

They did? That's pretty damned funny!

I think this is exceptionally wonderful, gives me hope for the youth of today. And the experiments that could leave small holes in the Earth tomorrow.

I blame the winter. It is so freezing cold where I am and I'm so bloody miserable I find myself drawn to pointless crap perhaps that's why so many pointless threads are appearing?

the alternative is scrabble I suppose.
