The theatrics are unreal.... btw had to Google, it's due to state funding expiring. I'd rather see the White House shut down.

Yeah, ridiculous.

I was supposed to have a conference call with a woman who works for the Michigan Secretary of States Office on Monday. I got an e-mail from here Friday telling us she'd be using her personal phone......

That's nuts! Found this from Googling it and one part is really scary: "owners of stores and bars worry they might not be able to replenish liquor supplies if state-run warehouses are shut down."

OK all kidding aside, is this shutting down all schools as well? I'm afraid I'm too lazy to read all 4 pages of the article.

SS, how does this affect you in your daily life?

I notice there's nothing on the front page of www.michigan.org ... ;)

Michigan can be an "interesting" place to live in sometimes. Not sure how it will affect me though, we'll just have to see what happens on Monday I suppose.

This happened in New Jersey in July 2006 for six days.

The biggest news articles at the time were about the casinos in Atlantic City having to close down. By law all the casinos have to have NJ State gambling inspectors on the premises and of course they were not present due to the State closing down.....

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13714765/

State beaches were closed (inc. 4th of July!) and as my mum and daughter were over from England, we all spent a few days on the Delaware coast instead.

It ended when the State tax was raised from 6% to 7%

I'm surprised anyone can get to the Capital building anyway. With the all the roadworks and the bizarre one-way system in downtown Lansing, it's like Hampton Court maze, but with cars.

well i think the best thing that could happen is that they would just do away with the state government . its one of the most bloated and bureaucratic in the US or As . although i love the partying and east Lansing =-) ;)

about 30% of my new tenants are from michigan, they complain a lot about lack of jobs and opportunity

one told me yesterday they just ramped up state income tax because of the lack of state funds

Michigan is a very beautiful state. But yep, the enconomy is very very tough - lots of unemployement. Other than Detroit, not much industry I think. I've spent the summers up there, and think about moving permanently sometimes, but the economy does worry me.

That's what I read, they increased the state income tax a bit.
