I never heard of a UK company that paid for private health coverage... no doubt they exist but not in my industry (games).

Generally its a bonus in the UK and tbh my coverage was pish - they were ridiculously strict in pre-existing conditions (eg a trip to the GP was classed as "treatment".
However I would imagine it would have been handy in certain circumstances.

The company I work for offers free soda to staff and you know what yanks are like with soda and free stuff - people guzzling 4 or 5 cans a day - prob not good for the long-term health of your workforce.

Back to healthcare - my medical insurance (which I was required to have as an international student) weasled their way out of paying for my knee surgery from a sports injury and left me with a 12k bill
