Yes, I see what you mean! Was typing this and also trying to sort out landlord's insurance at same time so not really paying attention We only know we will be living in NJ, but have several areas in mind so not sure which school district we will be in yet.

TDap is the equivalent to DTP in the UK which she should have had at 13 months although maybe not if you didn't do MMR?

Re: Medical Records
If you can get the whole medical file, get it, but there might be a cost involved for "admin", can be anything from 5-25 squid all in, or pay per the page. Depends on the local authority I guess.
When I got mine, getting a copy was free but was going to cost 25 squid to send it, so my mother picked it up and mailed it to me as it ended up taking a few weeks to get as the place only had office temps at the time through illness/maternity leave and they didn't know what to do.

Ok. Just come back from doctor. Daughter has had MMR and TDaP. They do Hep B, but charge £40 per shot, so will check out US health insurance.
I have to write a letter to the Practice Manager to get a printout of vaccinations and write to our GP to get medical records. I have been warned that there will be some sort of charge. Will advise what I end up paying for the records.

Re: Medical Records
I have been quoted £35 each for copies of our medical records from the GP, there is 5 of us, 2 adults 3 children. We are moving to California in 5 weeks all healthy so may just go with vaccination records from recent medical in London. Does anyone think this is a mistake, should I get full records???

Apparently your full records aren't much use, perhaps because they can't rely on them officially. However, to contradict myself, I did have a letter from my eye surgeon describing surgery I'd had done, and they did ask to keep that after reading it.

Re: Medical Records
Thanks for replying, sorry if I sound dense but why did you need the GP letter for nhs coverage?

Might not be 100% correct there but that's the gist of it.

Re: Medical Records
Now I understand, thanks. This medical insurance sure is confusing.

Re: Medical Records
As a new customer, some insurance companies impose a waiting period before full coverage takes effect. The letter from the GP proves you have had full prior credible medical coverage so the waiting period has to be waived - some companies will just take your word for it and won't need evidence; others have no idea what the NHS is and need educating. There's a 62/63 day limit on gaps in coverage (I forget exactly which) before waiting periods can kick in.
Might not be 100% correct there but that's the gist of it.

If there has been a gap of longer than 62 days, anything related to those issues can be excluded for x period, anything from 1-3 years from subsequent insurance coverage usually. The NHS is considered creditable coverage, so proof is handy, more so if you're going for private insurance coverage in the US or being self employed kind of deal.

Re: Medical Records
Hi,
Just a quick update. I saw my GP and asked for copies of our records. He said that they can provide either a summary of the last "X" amount of years (which will basically just give the highlights of any health related issues, rather than chapter and verse), or a detailed report. I have to write a letter to the surgery requesting the records and have been told there will be some sort of charge but he (the doctor) did not know what it would be. As we are a healthy bunch, I am just going to get the summary, along with vaccination record for my daughter and a letter to say that my daughter had chicken pox when she was 2 so that she will be exempt from varicella vaccine in the US.

Thanks Bob. I wouldn't have even thought about mine. The last vaccination I had was the BCG around 30 odd years ago! Before that, it's only the ones I would have had as a baby. OH went on a business trip to India a couple of years ago and had some vaccinations for that, so will get his too.
