Default Medical Records

I was referred to a consultant by my doctor recently. I've been waiting for the results from some tests I had which were due yesterday or this morning.

After much phoning around this afternoon I find he didn't actually request the test I was needing and didn't put a note of having carried out any tests when I was there on Friday afternoon, so I have been waiting for antibiotics based on results that were never going to come.

I had some tests at the hospital the results of which were sent to him and what I want to know is can I ask him to send my results to another consultant as I have no confidence in him anymore.

Contact the hospital Medical Records Dept and simply ask them to send them on to whoever you choose, or just ask for a copy of your own. It is your legal right to have these. I would choose who you are going to go to first, and have them sent on before your appointment, or just get them and take them with you.

I recently had to do the same thing, as my employer is paying for me to see a specialist at Vanderbilt - they would not confirm appointment until my records were sent to them.. I simply contacted original hospital and they faxed me an authorization and I faxed it back signed and told them where I wanted them to go. If it involves xrays or MRIs, you would will have to go and pick up the films by hand and take them with you on loan.

Good luck. Hope it works out OK for you.

Thanks Lesley. I was actually praising the speedy service I got when I had to go to the ER over the weekend in comparison to Casualty visits in the UK but now I am wondering if it was this dope's fault I was there in the first place.
