Default Medical Insurance while getting settled

Got my (Spousal) visa, so it is full steam ahead for a June move!

I have one quick question so far. As I am not intending to look for work until nearer the moving date, and realistically will be in the USA for a period of time before starting work, what are my options regarding medical insurance? I know I cannot take out a travel policy here as I am not travelling on holiday but settling permanently, I just wondered what other expats have done in a similar situation.

Thanks.

Can your spouse add you on to any work-based insurance they have? Getting married/ spouse taking up US residency would be a life event, so you wouldn't need to wait until open enrollment.

Otherwise, a private policy through your state exchange/ healthcare.gov/ a broker. Once you are a resident, regardless of whether you're working, you need to be covered by an ACA-compliant policy for at least 9 months of the year or pay a fine.

You can browse the policies available in the state you're moving to.
