Default Medical Insurance Question

I have a quick question about medical insurance, and am hoping someone can help out here. About a month ago we found out that my wife is pregnant, we currently have no insurance and so at the moment are paying full whack for check up's (oh the joy!!)

Anyways, I am in the process of getting insurance sorted through my job, so in the not too distant future we will have insurance. The question I have is will the pregnancy be covered by the new insurance? dependants are covered on the policy, but we were not sure because the insurance company might view the pregnancy as a pre-existing condition.

Thanks

Can you get the name and number of the company and the policy type from your employer? I think it varies, so you need to call them.

If it is a group policy then you may be ok.......coverage should start from day 1 of eligibility.

I am not going to guarantee it, but highly likely.

I remember a friend telling me that her husband got a new job towards the end of her pregnancy, he stayed with the job until after the birth as the new insurance wouldn't cover it. PS He was/is working for a large international company. Suppose it depends on the insurance company and state regulations.

I have seen pregnancy as a pre-existing condition on one policy but not on another. It depends on the INS company and the coverage you get. Just gotta ask about it.

Isn't there intranet/internet access to the health insurance provider's website? You could check there about whether pregnancy is considered a pre-existing condition.

where the missus worked, they didn't cover births or anything baby related until the person had been on the insurance for a year...spouses couldnt' be added on till you'd been there a year either actually....what a cracking merger that was eh

When I have looked at those it has pretty much impossible to tell.

Usually State law requires group plans to provide coverage, for obvious reasons.
