I would be grateful for any experience from those who have taken out gap medical insurance for the US. We will be in the States (NJ) for a period of 2 weeks until the medical coverage provided by my employer starts and I need something to cover that gap. Having read the fine print on our travel insurance policy I realise that is invalid (as we're moving to become US residents) and so I need a separate product.

I've found many such providers on the web but would be grateful for any recommendations from those who've used such policies.

Thanks for your reply. I'd actually found that provider on the web, but alas they will not cover me in NJ, it seems.

I think I may have found a UK-based solution after hours of trawling through posts here and the web more widely. I'll update this thread when I know more.

When we moved from the UK, we took the QM2 and then these guys provided us with two weeks post-arrival travel insurance to get enrolled with my wife new US job.

I ended up buying a policy from these guys. I spoke to them and they seem very good.
