Default Medical and Health insurance quote

We need to buy our own medical and accidental insurance for about 1-2 months (until my other half's job starts and then his company will cover us).
We called AIG (who we are getting our car insurance from) and we were quoted this:

'Gateway Plus Plan, $500 deductable, $100,000 cover for 2 adults and 1 child. $195.50 per month'

We have never bought this kind of insurance before and was wondering, 1) Is $100,000 a reasonable amount of cover? (they had a $500,000 option but you HAD to take this for a minimum of 6 months. 2) Does $195.50 sound about right?
Without going into full blown details, we will be covered if we fall ill and need to see a Dr etc... or if we had an accident and needed surgery etc...

Thanks everyone

doesn't seem too bad. $100,000 isn't a lot of coverage, but how much damage are you likely to do to yourselves in 2 months??

Basically, if you get run over and are in a vegetative state for the rest of your live, then $100,000 ain't enough!

But if you get run over and break your leg, then this policy will cover it.

Think carefully about the cover since you have a child. Healthcare for your child can seriously eat into your finances, even if you have as much as 80% covered by a health plan.

Also, does this health insurance include dental? You might want to consider that, mostly for your child (tooth falls out, falls off bike, etc.)

whatever - get travel insurance... much cheaper and will cover you for up to 3months. I will pm you the details I was sent (can't post them, I don't have them right now).. much cheaper than that tho.

Travel insurance won't cover you if you are moving to the US and not just visiting. I tried to get 2 weeks worth of coverage that way in the interim between arriving and starting my job which has free health insurance. They wouldn't cover me and I've used them for years. You don't want to take the risk that they won't pay out in the event of a claim.

Just my opinion.. but I would seriously consider taking the $500,000 coverage.

I used www.expatriate-insurance.com who were very reasonable for interim cover.
