I used to read Martin's Money Saving Tips in the UK. Just wondering if anyone knows of any equivalent for the US?

There aren't any. Not like it at least...but fatwallet is probably the closest.

also...subscription to Consumer Reports (a bit like Which? in UK) can be useful if you're contemplating making a bunch of new purchases.
Your local library will also have it - but subscription is pretty cheap, I believe.

I started this thread as a spinoff after I read another thread about saving money - I think it was Tonrob and someone else talking. One of the websites that was on that was called frequentmiler, which looks pretty good.

Writing this during my free weekend in Philly!

Most of my extreme money saving ploys involve layering at least two but preferably three of the following in any transaction:

1) discounted gift cards bought with cashback/point/mile-earning credit cards
2) cashback or points/miles-providing online shopping portals
3) coupon codes

There are quite a few variations and the landscape is ever-changing, but this is the gist of it.
