I think you will find that the majority of us Brits in the US are here because of our American spouses. A minority are here on H or other types of work visas.

Because the US is so difficult to get into (from an immigration standpoint) you won't find the whole UK family moving over here like they can to Australia. Also, having no retirement visa narrows the field too.

So, to answer your question - yes, my wife is American. :)

Well I was in that boat, but disembarked some years ago (all that swabbing the decks was getting to me). Am now in Margaritaville (married a Mexican).

My Mrs is American. After three and a half years living in London we moved over here basically because she wanted to be nearer her family. We do like it here (have good jobs, a nice house, etc), but she recently admitted that if we won the lottery (hahahahaha) she would want us to be based in Britain and simply fly the rellies over for lots of visits.

Most of us would not be here if it was not for our other halfs. I certainly would not be!!! We intend to move back to England in 8 years time, when hubby retires from the Navy. And would like our Son to finish schooling back there. My hubby was based in England for 5 years, and loves the place, he said he now feels like a fish out of water back in the U.S.

After an L1 and an H1-B (can't remember the order), the American Missus and I got married. Enjoying Austin, TX, and have no plans to return to the UK ... not that I ever lived there much anyway.

Married to an American also. Had a really rough first year or so finding decent work but have now found something and feel much happier here.

Having said that too much about the American way of doing things and systems disturb me and with hindsight I should have moved the wife to the UK in the first place, we both thought it would be simpler for me to be here!

I can appreciate your husband's sentiments. I married a Brit, we lived in UK for 5+ years, moved back this past January - guess who is dying to go back and can't stand the US..... ;)

My circumstances are probably different to most of you out there.

My spouse and I met and married in the UK. We were working for the same employer at the time.

Ours was the first marriage that arose out of this site/office in London.

Subsequent to my marriage, there was a Canadian and Oz couple who got married (he got an H1-B) and they're living in the US now. The third couple was a Brit-US marriage but she was in the US throughout the relationship before moving to the UK. I hear the US wife is quite miserable now (the couple live in Hemel Hempstead).
