Default Marriage On A Visa Waiver?

Hi

I am a Brit who has been here on a visa waiver since the start of April , my get out date is the end of June, about 10 days away.
I am living with my american girlfriend in New York.
what will realistically happen if I get married here this week and apply for AOS. even if it goes through ok, will i end up sitting around the apartment for a year unable to work or travel?

Would I be better to return to the UK and get my girlfriend to follow me on a fiancee visa and set up home there?

thanks

There are more appropriate forums for your question. Please try reposting on:

US Immigration

and/or

US Marriage Based Visas

Also, if you do a search with key words in your post in either group, it's highly likely that somebody else was in a similar predicament and got answers. So, the answer may be in previous threads.

Best of luck,
