Re: Mark Thatcher
Getting into work this morning, flicking on the computer to be greeted with the headline
"Thatcher arrested"
Made me grin like a loony. Imagine seeing that headline in 1982......
But on reflection I blame the parents.
What hope did he have
His father was a drunk and his mother stole milk off children
Please can I be the first to tell Mummy

Whilst I like the fact that as a British subject, there is a chance I could get a knighthood. (Hey don't snigger, you never know in the future) what I don't like is this shiftless loser who inherited the title from his G+T drinking henpecked invisible Dad, who only got that because he's married to the (mustdiesoon) Job Snatcher.
If you want to be called Sir something then you've got to earn it doing something for your country, as Steve Redgrave did. Not **** around the desert in some race, get lost and have to call Mummy to rescue you.

2. Why is he classed as a Business man? he was involved in the biggest Arms scandal/deal with BEa and the saudi's, and that was only cause his mumsy was PM and organised it.
3. His mum was in the USA at the time of his arrest. That is far to close for comfort.
4. With Dennis and now this, me thinks it won't be long before I can break out the champers.

Re: Mark Thatcher
Mark Thatcher and his mysteriously acquired millions is probably the closest we've got to genuine, serious financial corruption in UK politics since the war. Bizarre that the Thatchers should adopt European practice so readily.
I'm looking forward to the next issue of Private Eye already....

Here's an interesting story in today's "Independent" on 'Charmless Mark' and how he made his millions:

Update on "Sir" Mark Thatcher:
Apparantly he had his bags packed and was ready to leg it to the USA,
But obviously his devious plan buggered up.
Maggie (mustdiesoon) was in the USA at the time...then came home after this broke... *raises eyebrow*
The thick plottens even more though and further on in the report we find the name of Simon Mann and...
Now why am I not surprised to read this name in connection to all this ?

Apparantly he had his bags packed and was ready to leg it to the USA,
Sir Mark Thatcher was preparing to flee South Africa when he was arrested over his alleged involvement in a botched coup attempt, police in Cape Town alleged yesterday.
As the apparent plot to overthrow the president of Equatorial Guinea continued to unravel, the elite Scorpions police unit said it had arrested Sir Mark after learning that he had put his house on the market, arranged to sell four of his cars, found boarding school places in the US for his two children and bought his family plane tickets to the US.
When officers arrived at his home in the upmarket Constantia suburb of Cape Town at 7am on Wednesday, they found the Thatchers' suitcases packed and in the hall. The house had been placed on the market for 22m rand (£1.8m).

Meanwhile the number of businessmen and establishment figures involved in the coup plot was widening. Lord Archer, who was dragged into the controversy after $134,000 (£74,000) was deposited into Mr Mann's bank account in the name of JH Archer four days before the coup attempt, was at the Olympics in Athens. He referred inquiries to his lawyers in London. They said he had never met, spoken to, or communicated in any way with Mr Mann, but the statement stopped short of denying he had paid the money into Mr Mann's company account.
