Marietta, GA

Hi,

We are considering a move to Marietta, GA from south of Atlanta, Peachtree City. This is primarliy for a reduced commute to Kennesaw where I now work. We need safety and also somewhere where we can walk to shops/stores (e.g. Marietta Square). I have read a few people live in Marietta and wanted to get some opinions/advice about good places to look. We visited the area a couple of times and got a bit put of by the "ghetto" looking areas north of the square (near Forest Park). We are looking to buy a place (ideally townhome).

Any help appreciated.

thanks

I've no idea about how many folks on BE are in that area, a couple I think?

Might have quicker luck snooping around city-data.com at a guess? Good luck though! :)

No sure if you have kids or not? Regardless of that, good school districts tend to attract more educated people, so I would use that criteria. http://www.greatschools.org/

Again, if you're thinking of buying, a good school district makes it easier to sell in the future. I75 is torture so if you live south of Kennesaw you'll be heading north in the morning and avoid most of the traffic.

I would look at Kennesaw where there are houses and town houses and prices are cheap. If you're looking for a place where house prices weren't affected as much, choose anything in the Walton HS district although there aren't many townhouses. Lassiter HS is further north so to the east of Kennesaw and you'll get more house for your buck.

Hope that helps.

Acworth is a much nicer area.... just the opposite side of Kennesaw.
It's reasonably priced, quiet, with a fairly low crime rate.... much nicer than Marietta.A lot of Marietta is pretty rough.
Also.... for the price of a townhome in Marietta, you can get a nice SFH in a decent and quiet subdivision in Acworth.

May be a dumb question, but if you want a short commute to Kennesaw, why don't you move to Kennesaw itself?

(I've just seen a job at Kennesaw State, so I'm interested for selfish reasons, also!)

Mableton is a nice & safe area, with a good school district. They have some real nice, affordable places there too!
