Re: Mapquest!
I've been using Mapquest for the past couple of months for directions to places all over South Jersey.
It directed me to drive through Fort Dix/McGuire AFB to get to Browns Mills. I wasn't too sure about it so checked on another map site and lo and behold there was no way I could simply drive through Fort Dix/Maguire AFB without security clearance first. I have used Google the last couple of times I have needed directions. BTW I see people U-turning on Rte1, I-95, 195 and 295 regularly. That's NJ drivers for you. |

Re: Mapquest!
I rely on Mapquest a lot of the time and find it good. Providing I have the mailing address of the place I am going it tells me exactly where I want to go and the maps are very acurate. I cover an area from the top end of Maine to Southern NJ and it always gets me there.
If you want something better try 'Autopilot' if you search and find that there is a 'free trip' section, just put it in favourites and use it when you want to find somewhere, it's no good for my job because it only uses car routes and doesn't show truck limits etc. |

Got stuck in the boonies trying to get onto I-85. Looking for a sign for I-85 N(orth). No sign for this but did see a sign for I-85 S(outh) so we followed that and lo and behold, finally we see a sign for I-85 N. I reckon either there's never been a sign for I-85 N there or a local nicked it or knocked it over and it's not been replaced  Fortunately, my penguin sense of direction very rarely lets me down. Having an built-in compass in the rear view mirror helps too. NC Penguin |

Re: Mapquest!
Yeah but it's free Jim ...... LOL.
I never used the others and don't see the point in some gadget on my dash, but then I know my way round here better than the UK and Europe. You cover different areas all the time and no doubt have to enter city centres every trip so you need something better. Did you get my text on thursday by the way ? |

Re: Mapquest!
I don't actually use the driving direction part of it Bob, I just get a map showing the actual location with a star on it, I know the routes well enough to get me with a few miles of most locations and take it from there.
The directions are always for cars anyway. For instance ;- If I ever need to go anywhere in souther NJ it always tells me to use the G S Parkway ..... Trucks are not allowed on most of that route. |
