Whenever I power up the spare iPhone (with the O2 SIM), I get a text from O2 welcoming me to the US ... oh wait, you said 'chargeable activity ...' I'd better send a text ...

9 GBP / mo is a lot if you don't travel there and only receive 1 or 2 texts per year! Skype is not a solution for SMS messages.

I have had a few issues with some SMS messages on Skype since the new version came out, but with 02 phone I have never had issues anywhere in world, and with the bolt-ons never had much issue with charges outside of UK.
