As for quotes like the following, do me a favour...

yada yada yada

$90k a year for a nurse who earned £700 a month in the UK - I think that she must have started working in a "gentleman's club" after hours to make up the difference as well.
Also, if everyone in the UK had to pay £150 a month for healthcare the NHS might be able to bring itself up off its knees, and as for the no VAT unless the daft cow lives in Delaware doesn't she pay Sales Tax.
To be honest I'm sure surrey if glad to see the back of her.
I also thought "Debs" was full of it: mentioning the poll tax for one thing. When was that abolished - 1990 or so? Did she mean council tax? Do they not have property tax in Virginia? As for moaning about the TV license: if you view it as a subscription to the BBC it looks like bloody good value - it amazes me how people who moan about the license fee are usually perfectly happy to fork out $100 a month for cable TV and the advert laden dross that constitutes most of its content.

Agreed - 100 squiddlies a year to have 4 or 5 channels free from commercials every 9 minutes seems like a bargain to me. Oh, and channels that show educational and interesting tv as well - could well be the bargain of the century.

That's what you get for having a job......... seriously, I hate it when someone does that, especially when you have spent the day avoiding soccer sites and UK news sites when you are taping the game.

God that is so true.

The Daily Mail seems to have a strange grip on people's minds in Britain and it's amazing their constant misrepresentation of facts goes unpunished.

they always have someone talking about "poll tax" don't they?

I did it for the European cup final last year, avoided the BBC website, had the game on Tivo, only for the wife to ring me and say
"Hey honey, hell of a comeback by the scousers"

you obviously get more than the basic cable then....or your basic is far better than what we get....

but there have been some cracking drama's on lately, so the channels haven't been all poo...well between the evening shows they have been I guess, but don't normally watch the tele during the day.
