Lunatics on planes

It still amazes me how people just lose the plot on airplanes.

The FBI said that about two hours before the flight was scheduled to land, the Japanese man elbowed the passenger sitting next to him. Federal authorities said the Japanese man didn't think the passenger should be using an iPod in flight and complained that he smelled. He then poured perfume on the man, poured water on himself and vomited in the aisle, authorities said.

TAMPA - With all the fuss about shampoo and suntan lotions on airplanes, perhaps Mavis Cobb Thornton forgot the basics.

Don't pack a hidden, loaded handgun in a carry-on bag.

Thornton, 58, of Valrico was arrested Monday after Tampa International Airport security screeners discovered a .38-caliber Taurus silver revolver in her bag, police say.

Airport officials say the gun was loaded with three bullets and tucked inside her carry-on.

Just the sort of thing you forget when packing ..
but it gets better

Guns aren't banned aboard airplanes, but passengers thinking about packing one should get permission first.

Me too, I don't get it why/how people decide its ok to pull shit like this.
Once saw a white couple and an indian couple very nearly kick off at the baggage carusel in JFK. Lots of shouting and ramming each other with their trolleys - I always thought something like that would be funny but it wasn't, it was pretty frightening to see people just lose it.

Flying is scary. People do things, that I think, they wouldn't normally do.

I've been seriously abused by the airlines and their employees more than once. If I attacked anybody it would probably somebody working at the ticket counter or screening.

Some of them should seriously be required to take IQ tests .... these are fairly important jobs, IMO.

Me thinks the Japanese guy doesn't wash his fruit before he eats it. I would like to know why he was carrying perfume anyway........ A guy like that can't possibly have a female companion. :D

I agree, I'd be interested to know if those jobs are minimum wage or just above it. I know in England you get paid f--k all to work at the check in desk.

Off topic I know - but what a wonderful turn of phrase!

Meanwhile, back on the thread .....

the wage is pretty low starting out. most if not all jobs in aviation are unionized however and escalate quickly.

We had a loon on a plane flying from Tampa to Miami a few years ago. He started getting rowdy and threw his drink at the gal. The co pilot came back and gave him hell. He carried on being weird.

He had a free ride with the Miami-Dade cops when we arrived in Miami.

It was disconcerting.

Thats a truly scary thought, especially here in the US where 90% of people can't get by without constantly blabbing on the phone.

Maybe I'd have to compromise my anti marketing man standards and invest in some of those gay Bose Quiet Comfort headphones.

Re: Lunatics on planes

When I was returning from Cuba to the UK a few years back after a vacation, a bloke on the plane went nuts, shouting about the devil, etc - apparently he'd been taking some weird drugs it transpired later.

Didn't impress the package tour folk on the plane, who promptly beat him up and strapped him into his seat, where he continued to rant. The pilot diverted to Gander in Newfoundland and dumped him off, that added a few hours to the flight.
