Nice timing. Just got the new car, balanced all my UK credit cards into one monthly payment and thought things were going well.
After all my monthly outgoings for March have been taken care of, I should have about 50c to live on until I get another job.
Fantastic.
Am I the only one that feels like the USA is shitting on them every chance it gets? Or am I in a minority?
Now I have to look around again for a job which is not easy in a small town.
Anyone know how the hell you sell a car that's on finance?

Sorry to hear about this Rincewind... I really feel for you. I'd be in nits right now. It's hard to hold it all together but there's always a way. Any job is better than no job right now so maybe consider things you wouldn't normally consider.
I have always thought having the ability to work as a health care assistant was incredibly valuable, because you don't really need a qualification and you can pretty much work whenever you want. I always used to suggest it to friends back in England who needed a job quick, because we were always so desperate for help. If you work for an agency you can pick and choose where and when you want to work. I'm not sure how you'd go about it over here in the US but some of the agency people I've worked with don't know their ear from their left elbow, so it obviously can't be that hard. As a temporary or emergency job it could be ideal.

Update on the situation:
The guys I freelanced for called me today to apologize for dropping me so suddenly. They were under a lot of stress at the time and have now realized that this was not the way to have handled it.
So, we discussed a job by job payment basis.
The deal is, they feel like they jumped in too quick and wanted sites built without thinking through their objectives.
Working for these guys is a trip. Think of someone telling you to build a house without telling you the details, size, rooms, etc. Then, half way through building it, they tell you to add a room or move the bathroom some place else.
This is them.
I kept telling them they needed to give me clearer instructions before building anything but all I got was, "just throw something together now and we'll change it when it's done."
Well, part of today's conversation was them finally realizing that I was making sense. So now, they want to take it slow. Fully plan one site at a time and then get me to build it. The idea is hopefully to build up the web site projects again to the point where they could go back to paying me a monthly salary.
They just don't want to pay me monthly when they have to sit around and work out what they want first. This, although it sucks for me right now, is a much better business plan.
So I'll have a trickle of work although nothing is guaranteed and it could be weeks before I hear from them again. But it's better than nothing.
It was good to hear them squirm on the phone while I remained polite, professional and kept my cool. I could have easily said what I felt and lost everything.

Maybe in light of the scare, if you possibly can, you should try and put aside some money for that "rainy day"...
