We do have shotgun marriages here.... now, if you're a bloke there's a technique: get the CEO's daughter pregnant, marry her, and Daddy will have to give you a job.

Of course, you have to live with your new extended family.

A little extreme I feel

Although I have considered empty money rolls strapped around my waist with a few odd wires and a wind up clock.

"Gimme the job or I'll blow us all to hell!!!!"

It might just work. They may see it as a demonstration of initiative

Hey LIW

By the way, only take my advice in my PMs. The above post is not a recommended interview tactic

RW, why not knock on some doors, there must be small businesses who are starting out who you could do some work for. I'm not familar with the USA but do they have the equavalent of small businesses starting up registration? They probably need web designs. Chamber of Commerce etc etc. Might be a goer if you do some cold calling, networking. Beats sitting at home worrying... Just an idea.

We have a small amount of web companies in the town I live in they have pretty much covered the businesses here. Also, being a small town, most work goes to brothers of friends, of wives, etc. All that kind of thing.

They've all had my resume, e-mails, etc. Some work on a freelance basis and I've been added to their work rostas, but that could be the polite "no thanks."

I found some excellent IT sites last night and posted my resume on them and found some interesting positions to apply for so fingers crossed.

Things sometimes look bad when it happens so suddenly, shock and the DANA syndrome (Denial Anger Negotiation Acceptance). But something will come up, I just have to keep pushing. It will be there and be better.

Oh. Now he tells me. I think I can put the alarm clock back the way it was,but I've got some nasty wire marks on my body and I'm just going to have to ditch the tape. Need some nail varnish remover, too.

Comes with great benefits, along with free education, free legal advice, and membership in the teamsters union. Mind you the Co sucks, they cannot seem to deliver to the right address, one of my packages went astray for 14 days and no-one gave a shit.

You do website design? Is this super technical stuff, or do you do the little jobs for small businesses looking to get basic stuff up? If so, I may be able to send some business your way....we have had someone trying to put a site together for us for nigh on 6 months and we're getting nowhere (if you check out Franklins thread about hotmail viruses, thats the fella I'm talking about). If he doesn't get sorted in 2 weeks, we're going to call it a day and look for someone else - if you're interested, drop me a PM.

Also, there are quite a few people advertising this sort of stuff on ebay - have you thought of floating an ad or 2 and see if it brings anything in? May or may not, but its a pretty small investment in time and money to run an ad...

Good luck! and try to keep postitive - something is sure to be just around the corner - its just a matter of finding the corner, and turning the right way!

I would have to say not to give in and give up. My husband was very worried when he arrived here that his age (54) would be against him. He was willing to take whatever he could get. After 30 years in the shipping industry (admin) we thought that he would be able to get on with the GPA in Savannah. Instead after registering with agencies (HIS idea, not mine), he applied for a job with a company in Savannah under a general cattle call type of ad. Fortunately, they actually looked at his CV (retailored US style) and offered him a position. It's not shipping, although it does involve data entry (spread sheets make him tingle!!!) and he has learned to drive a fork lift!!!
He has good medical benefits as well. You just never know what's around the corner.
