The luck has finally run out

The luck has finally run out
Well, after finally getting situated in a job here in the good ol' US of A, I get a call from my employers this morning to say they are pulling the plug on their web development program.
:scared:
Nice timing. Just got the new car, balanced all my UK credit cards into one monthly payment and thought things were going well.
After all my monthly outgoings for March have been taken care of, I should have about 50c to live on until I get another job.
Fantastic.
Am I the only one that feels like the USA is shitting on them every chance it gets? Or am I in a minority?
Now I have to look around again for a job which is not easy in a small town.
Anyone know how the hell you sell a car that's on finance?
:scared:

I'm really sorry to hear this, it's a lousy situation. I can sympathise. Hubby got laid off the end of Jan. and I'm doing the 50 cent thing too.
Life in the U.S. is not as easy as it's painted. Yes, the economy's strong compared to many countries, but getting a decently-paid, full-time job just isn't that easy.
If I get any good ideas for you I'll pass them on, but I wish you good luck with your job hunt anyway.

You may have also considered this already but take care to protect your credit score. I don't remember how long you've been in the US but you need to make sure you don't default on any loans, etc.

I'm really sorry to hear your news. Where are you located? Where were you working? Do you have a BA degree? Just spinning my wheels on what advice I could give to put some light into that tunnel. There's got to be a way.

Sad news, rincewind. I hope you find something quick.
Not sure about the car thing, but it revolves around getting the cash to the lienholder to release the title to the new owner. The buyer's financer might do that for them, releasing you from the difficult part. If it's a cash deal, I would probably take only cash or cashier's check for payment. My guess is that you then give the guy (and yourself) a signed receipt so that he knows he's bought something, and that you're not giving him a non-manufacturer's warranty (make sure it's in writing). Call the insurance company and tell them that you no longer own the car. Send money to the lienholder to release the title (which you might have to sign) before sending it to the new owner.
But first, wait for other BE members to correct my statements as this is something I've never done myself. (You might also call the insurance company and get their take on it.)

Rincewind,
You do website design, don't you?
Have you tried networking via Meetup?
Are any of these any good to you?
http://webdesign.meetup.com/
I don't know your zipcode so I can't check if there's a group near you. You can also do a search by topic of interest too if you in fact specialize in something else.

No BA degree for me, my only notch is the seven years web experience working with large and small companies.
Time to send out that resume again.

Hmm. The reason I ask about the BA is because schools usually only require you to have that in order for you to substitute teach which is ofcourse, a very temporary but easy solution and you can get round 95-100 / day and work when you want meaning that you can job hunt in person when you need too. It may be worth checking into in your state. I know some states have loser requirements and if you catch a particular school district in need of subs then you may get in. Hope that helps.
