Who Should Pay?
Palm Beach, Fla. (The Wall Street Journal)--Hurricane season is over, but for John Beach there's one more financial cloud on the horizon. He recently got a notice that insuring the house he owns near the Atlantic Ocean against wind damage will cost $7,606 in premiums this year, with a $12,500 deductible. And he's in no position to shop around. The only company offering a policy is Citizens Property Insurance Corp., Florida's insurer-of-last-resort.
"I suppose we'll go ahead and pay it," says Mr. Beach.

Maybe an exodus due to high insurance will help lower property prices.

as for bitching about the price, I mean insurance companies aren't in it for the good of their health........they wanna make a profit. even the last resort carriers cannot be bankrolled by taxpayers whom don't have the hurricane exposure. Then what you'll get is people who live in the middle of the state subsidising those that live on the coast.

No offence - but are you stupid?
You hate them but you've been with them 10 years? Then change!!! Unless you meant to say you hate them but they are the cheapest - which ALMOST makes sense until you question why you hate them?

I pay $149 a month (direct debit) for 2 cars with Progressive. Thats $1788 per year.
I've had other companies try and beat that but they can't so looks like I'll be sticking with them.
By the way if you get a speeding ticket...pay the court fee's and go to defense driving, its well worth it (otherwise you may pay an extra $300 - $500 per year on you car insurance).

Re: Lowering Your Auto Insurance- My Way
Some differences between US and UK practice.
Inusrance companies can pull your DMV records.
If you have had a ticket it appears that ther is no obligation to inform the Insurer at renewal.
DMV report are usually pulled for new business, or if there is an obvious incident, like a claim. Occasionally at other times.
I am surprised one speeding ticket would have much if any impact.
