Lottery / Immigration lawyer
HELP truly appreciated on two questions:
1. I'm a UK citizen, in the US on an H1-B; just applied for the Lottery Green card online (and paid $40). Now I read elsewhere that British citizens are not eligible!! True or not? Can I get my money back if true? 2. I REALLY need a good immigration lawyer in Houston, Texas. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Madz |

Can you apply for GC based on employer sponsorship? You applied on-line? With who? Applications do not cost any money if sent directly as far as I know. If this is some web "company" then talk to them. |

Did that once costs were $25 and all they do is make sure your "bet" is on the right spot on the right time..........Got the feeling you were fooled, they should have warned you. -- steg |
Re: Lottery / Immigration lawyer
Taking part in the lottery is free. The money you paid is just for the work the
internet company does. Basically, send a letter with your adress to Kentucky, USA. If this is some web "company" then talk to them. The GC lottery is *free*. See http://trav- el.state.gov/DV2004.html, in particular: <<< NO fee is charged to enter the annual DV program. The U.S. Government employs no outside consultants or private mail services to operate the DV program. Any intermediaries or others who offer assistance to prepare DV casework for applicants do so without the authority or consent of the U.S. Government. Use of any outside intermediary or assistance to prepare a DV entry is entirely at the applicant's discretion. >>> Apparently, the OP used some company to prepare his application. And of course, a lot of these companies are happy to part you from your money... |

If this is some web "company" then talk to them. I applied online through www.usais.org! It looked like a legitimate web site, so I thought I'd go ahead and give it a go. you have to take an "eligibility" test first and from that it determined that I was eligible to enter the lottery! How complicated is it for my employer to sponsor me for a GC? I have two years left on my H1B. It's a small company-- never had to do anything like this before. I've heard it's pretty expensive. True? |

Where in Kentucky? What needs to be in the letter? I guess, though, it doesn't matter -- it seems that I'm not eligible anyway! British citizens born outside the UK and its current territories are also eligible. As are a small number of people born in the UK who can claim 'nativity' of an eligible country by virtue of their parent's or spouse's birth outside the UK & territories. Jeremy |
