Plane, car, bus or possibly even train are all options. You're free to travel anywhere in the USA with your green card.

Seriously, you've lost your passport, are worried that you might not be able to get back to the UK, are delighted to find that there's a system to help folks in your position, then baulk at making a short domestic trip?

Well guys i thank you all for your help but today i found my passport today.. I will explain what happened.. A few weeks ago when i still had my car i put my suitcase in the back on the car, The passport must have fallen out at some point so when i removed the suitcase i never thought to check.

I sold my car to a junk yard about 2 weeks ago and then the trip came up to go to england.. I had a guess the passport had fallen out in the trunk so when i went and checked today it was there.

Thank you for all your help guys.. I am so relieved now.

Green card and US driving licence are both acceptable to board a domestic flight (he should have green card anyway).

That was my point. The whole "well, it would be inconvenient to get off my arse to pick up an emergency travel document" thing struck me as mithering, to say the least.
