Looking to move to NC
Hi,
I currently live in UK with my young family and looking to move to NC for a better future for the kids. I came across this forum while browsing and just wanted to know what it was like to move, whether to get a job first over there and how do i go about it although i have a cousin who lives in NC Charlotte. i have been searching jobs websites after another and can't seem to find good sites to look at? are there any recruitment agencies over there that look into recruiting people from the UK?
I would appreciate any advice and or information you guys can share?
Thank You

Hi Happy New Year and Welcome to BE!!
I would suggest your first port of call be this page: http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Pulaski_Simplified
Then when you've read that and have a clearer picture of things you will be able to ask specific questions. For instance: Do you have a degree? Do you work for an employer that could possibly transfer you? Is your spouse and American citizen? etc etc. You should also check out the US Citizenship and Immigration site at: http://www.uscis.gov
Best of luck.

What Sue is politely saying is...
If you're not married to a USC, have a DIRECT relative who is a USC here, have skills that are in high demand or work for a company that has US interests, your chances of immigrating are just about zero or below!
Check the links she provided and see if you can find something that fits. Otherwise you are SOL, I'm afraid.
ETA: A cousin does NOT count as a direct relative!

Everything above. Plus, unless you are in an extremely specialist niche career no company or agency will recruit you from the UK. In most cases employers will have no interest in hiring you until you are already in the US, and without a visa allowing you to settle and work in the US you won't be moving here, so no employer will look at you. It's a sort of chicken-and-egg thing.
Tip: how did your cousin get to the US? You might look at doing the same thing.
