Your not kidding there Juswus, my wife had surgery on her eye and all the insuance paperwork was filled out and signed by the right people. A week after surgery the same insurance company denied the claim so my wife had to make umpteen phone calls to get it straightend out. :curse:

I had eye surgery last Friday and yesterday received the statement from POMCO that the claim has been paid to both the surgeon and the eye surgery center.
Your wife's situation is not something that happens to everyone but when it does it is certainly a pain in the tuss.

How come you always get perfect service off US health care, Rete, and everyone else gets screwed? I begin to wonder whether you have friends in high places or something.

man, there's some happy memories! Loved filling those little books for Mom! Takes me right back to riding around in her bubble-back Mercedes with the push button starter! On a booster seat!

I write from Canada and firstly say that I have traveled extensively in the USA. I've enjoyed the experiences very much and have seen numerous places I know I would delight to call home. When I emigrated from the UK many years ago I didn't have the States on my radar and after reading the numerous posts on this thread I realized that, for me, it's a great place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. Almost three years ago I was hospitalized for three months during which time I experienced a double organ (liver/kidney) transplant. The total cost was in the $1M range and drugs initially were $5K monthly since reducing now to $3K p/m. There have been many follow-up visits since and many continuing tests and specialists. The total cost to me to date = $0. I have never even seen a bill.
I know that we can enter a discussion/argument as to the merits/detriments of both systems, but all I know and care about is that, for me, the Canadian universal health system works/did work.

Just have been super lucky with my choice of doctors and hospitals I suppose. Also have always been offered top of the line healthcare insurance from the firms I worked for so that is probably why.
I have never had a doctor bill me for the difference between his charge and what the insurance paid. But then I've always gone to a doctor within my network that accepts payment in full from the insurance company.
Believe me it has only been since age 42 when I had breast cancer that I even had a doctor other than a GYN. Never had been sick in all that time.

Re: Looking at getting health insurance - what an ordeal!
Just in case anyone was wondering anymore, I was able to meet with someone in the HR who sat down with me and explained a whole bunch of things for me, plus the company gave some more presentations of the plans for the next financial year. Even though this person specializes in this area, they still had to check a few times with the insurer on a few terms and phrases that were shown on the plan!
While I would be better off staying with my current arrangement, there are some treatments that aren't currently catered for by the charity and which we know we will need sometime this year. Plus, of course, there is the unknown events that nobody knows about and which is the main benefit/point of health/insurance.
Unfortunately, the coverage limit on the dental plan being offered is so small, it is worthless paying the premiums for. So we need to look for an alternative
The end result is that I have opted for a plan that looks the best for me and my wife, but I do have one question if anyone can help.
The life insurance & ADD that is also being offered by my employer seems OK but can anyone recommend a company that has good rates and coverage so I can compare?
Also, any info on good dental plans that are out there too that you know about.
