Exactly, so why move if it's just as bad or worse. Forget London anyway, as San Francisco and London are two complete different cities.

Yah, it is so much better to compare it to your little village.

Not even the desperate ones? :)

You'd have to be pretty desperate to want your places. TO is all right, as I said on the other thread. You've got the Civic Arts Plaza showing the Nutcracker and such.

What do you mean a generalization?
Are you saying that the Bay Area generally has no traffic congestion?

Again - all depends so much on individual factors.

When I lived in Mountain View - my commute was about 20 mins by bike - and we planned it that way when we chose the house. So for me traffic congestion really wasn't an issue.

No. I only say it does happen.

However on the roads I mentioned it does seem to be the norm:)

Just like the 405 and 5 during rush times in LA.

Some accept it as the cost of living there.
I simply indicated that for me it would be unacceptable. And one of the reasons I'll be glad to say goodbye to the LA area.

I'm a native Californian. Grew up in the San Fernando Valley. Lived in San Francisco for law school and several years thereafter. I then returned home to Los Angeles. I never moved back to the "Valley" and now live in "Los Feliz" area of Los Angeles.

Each area has its advantages and disadvantages and I'll leave it at that.

I was thinking of those who may undergo a forced move due to the lack of job security for example.
Good intentions to be stable and prosperous in the chosen location but then real life can intrude and plans go awry.

The 405 between the Valley and the Westside sucks. As for the 5, it depends on where one is going and at what time.

Agreed that part is quite fun.

Hubby now commutes to Burlingame each day, 27 miles. Luckily he doesn't have to be in for set times, so he leaves the house around 9.15, and for home around 7pm. The journey takes him around 30 minutes. If he leaves earlier he just sits in traffic and his commute time doubles.

Traffic in MV (as anywhere) can be silly though, my daughter has lots of friends living by the high school. If I have to take her there after work it can take me 30 minutes, due to all the lights... and it's only 5 miles.

He apparently lives in some small village in Ireland (probably something that he could afford after living in the bay area) that is wonderful and seems to try to compare his lifestyle with the bay area. I could also compare my brother's lifestyle who never made more than $50K per year living in a house that would cost millions of dollars in the bay area and is 10 minutes from the heart of downtown Minneapolis but there is no comparison. The following is a picture of his house.

I have a low tolerance for sitting in traffic, all that shuffling bumper to bumper driving. Consequence of never having commuted in 15 years.

So when I do experience it, LA, SF, Houston, Boston or elsewhere...

(I realize that individual members here may have perfectly reasonable commutes in the cities but many commuters are stuck in traffic every day.)

One thing I've noticed, well where I am at least....you can't afford to be poor to be a hippy any more.

They're all minted, seriously minted.
