I've been using 2 services. www.worldxchange.com from my home phone. 16 cents a minute to South Africa.
Also check www.callingcards.com for instant virtual calling cards and cheap rates though the service to SA has been a bit spotty
at times. Might be better to Britain........

I have a plan from AT&T. You can choose to have as many foreign countries on it as
you wish. You pay an extra $1 above your existing plan and all of your international
calls are $.12/minute. You can only get the rate for the countries that are on your
list, though. I call Mickey almost every day and my bill runs me about $50/month.

I used the cheapie phonecards from the Latin groceries, or corner shops or convenient stores. Get the kind with no connection fee. Will run you about 8-10 cents a minute.
Skip the name brand ones from Walmart and the like and At&T cards, they're a rip-off.
Alternately, use the At&t plan in the above post- seems quite reasonable.

Hi,

Yeah, I've got the same thing. But after seeing the prices for the calling cards I'm
wondering if there's a catch somewhere. Or is it just a little more cumbersome to use
a calling card?

If I can cut my phone bill in half just by dialling an extra few numbers I'll switch.

Thanks.

I have been using Cognidial for months now with NO problems. .07 per minute US to UK. You just have to dial an 800 number first. I can even call Rick from my office. You just have to register the numbers you call from, so you can't use it from a pay phone. They bill to your credit card.

Hi,

You can find more at http://www.consumer.att.com/global/english/index.html

The cards seem like the better deal though.

What 800 numbers, calling cards etc? Just get a cheap long distance provider and dial
directly, like: www.ldplanet.com charges 6c a minute or APS- American Phone Services
1-800-711-1323 I know they charge 7c for France, I'm not sure about UK. Milena

You pay 12 cents to call the UK??? Outrageuous.. Why? I call Siberia for 11 cents,
Moscow for 9. UK is about 6, I think.

WARNING.. Whatever you do, don't call without a plan, it could cost you $2 or $3
per minute

I use Kiss LD - www.kissld.com . They bill your credit card each month. $3 service
fee and calls to Romania where I call are .20 per minute. Also calls in the US are
.03 per minute.

Try this: 1016868 7.9¢/min, no monthly fee. Can use right away by prefixing with this
number, e.g. 1016868-011-44-...

I have used Cognidial for the past 9 months - great plan and rates. Have the
occassional bad connection but I talk with Sheena a couple of times daily and up to
an hour on weekends and my bill is around $60/mo.

Try big zoo or the kissld is very good. That's an actual phone plan for 3.00 per
month you pay 5cents per minute to UK. Big zoo is cheaper but it's a calling card.

Try BIGZOO (www.Bigzoo.com). Been using their service for almost two years now to
call my friends and family abroad.

Calls from the US to the UK is $0.045 per minute.
