Hi,

My wife and I have just started the I-130 process at the American Embassy in London. They charged my visa card on the 4th Feb (for the I-130).

Any one know how long it takes to get the next set of forms from them (packet 3)?

How long after returning these forms does it take to get an interview?

You should download for OF-230 part 1 and send it off to them straightaway. This will enable them to open a file for you and allocate you a case number. Then you should assemble the civil documents you need, apply for a police certificate, and check that your passport has at least 3 years to run on it. You also need to prepare the Affidavit of Support, which involves making sure that the USC's US taxes are in order, among other things.

By the time the petition is approved, you should have everything you need to proceed. It takes about a month from petition approval to interview, as long as you don't hold anything up by not being prepared ahead of time.

Here our timeline (DCF London)

23 June 2001 - posted complete I-130 and other forms to consulate

3 July 2001 - Received I-130 NOA (notice of approval)

13 July 2001 - Received packet 3

17 July 2001 - Sent OF-230 pt I to consulate (this form has been replaced with
another one, DS-156 or similar)

2 August 2001 - Sent checklist to consulate. We could have done this much sooner
since we had my wife's immunisation records and police certificate already but we
were waiting for her new UK passport to arrive (changed surname). The consulate will
not schedule an interview until the completed checklist has been returned to them.

23 August 2001 - Received packet 4 from consulate

20 September 2001 - Interview

Of course there is no guarantee that your timeline will be similar but the consulate
in London is quite efficient. I've recently read that the 'packet system' has been
revised and that packets 3 and 4 have been combined but I don't know if this has been
implemented yet (and I could be wrong about it).

I submitted mine in December and submitted my OF-230 at the same time but have not
heard anything yet!
