guns are pretty easy to get in the EU, doesn't seem to be such a rampant issue over there though...

Now shit can happen wherever you are, all I know is that I feel a lot safer here than in London.

Re: Local tragedy
Getting knifed is a much higher risk than being shot in the UK. Although gun crime is fast rising. Most UK police now wear covert body armour as standard issue - we had it for a couple of years for all beat officers and not just AFO's before I left. The majority were initially for protection against bladed weapons however most forces are now switching to combined bladed/ballistic armour. You would all be very surprised at how often we faced lethal weapons of all kinds on a day to day basis in sleepy old UK. Luckily the public are as of yet not so exposed. I would say I was personally involved in half a dozen firearms incidents and probably several hundred other weapons (eg knives, clubs, crowbars etc) incidents.
By the way Partstar I can guaruntee that you would not prefer to have someone hacking at you with a 10" carving knife. A well (or even poorly) weilded knife can do immense damage and is a terrifying thing to have to defend against. As are clubs, broken bottles, pieces of 2 by 4 with nails in them, etc.

don't know about partstar but I for one would rather have someone come at me with one of those weapons rather than a gun......surley you can't be
serious????......your legs can get you away from all of those weapons but you can't run faster than a bullet

Unfortunately living in the south has made my perception of certain elements of the black community significantly worse. Having 2 friends in less than six months killed by young black men does nothing to improve my perception

Oh and as you pointed out most shootings in your area are by young black men. What effect does that have on your perception of young men?

Do you know the 21 foot rule? An average adult with a non-projectile weapon (eg a knife) can cover 21 feet from a standing start and hit you with it before you can react. Any vaguely accomplished knife carrier is as deadly as someone with a firearm at any distance you are likely to be attacked from. You wont even know you're being attacked with one until its too late.
