Yep, been there lots of times - a friend owned a house on Ocracoke and I used to house/dog/kid-sit while he and his family went on vacation.

Very interesting - I have been to N Carolina many times (though not to the outer banks) and never heard of it. Thanks for sharing!

Anyone up for the incremental moving of the fences around the monuments until we (the British) have taken back the 13 colonies?

:D :D :D

Thanks for the link - I'd never heard of this.

Here's the Commonwealth War Graves Commission record for the cemetery at Ocracoke Island.

And here's the CWGC record for one of the men buried there..

For anyone who isn't aware of it, the CWGC database includes most Commonwealth casualties from the Second World War and other wars. It includes civilians and merchant seamen as well as service personnel. I've found it invaluable in researching my forbears.. as you'll see from Thomas Cunningham's record, the details often include parents and spouse..

Fascinating stuff, I'm interested in this as as I was very close to my grandad who served in the Royal Navy during WW2.

Thanks for the info.

I wish they could get their "English" and "British" sorted out.
