Cradle robber! I was 48 when AARP sent me an application (because Sheila was 50).

Interesting! I don't think Sadegh has ever received anything from AARP on his own. I joined for 1 year, didn't find any advantages, and dropped it last year.

We've both been members now for 10 years. We get the same discount on hotels and car rentals with AARP as with AAA... but we do get to take advantage of the "seniors" discounts in restaurants and movies.

We have no experience with their life insurance stuff.

The increase for my premium at the office in addition to Jim's coverage comes to under $15 a month.
Hi Rete,

Just to let you know, I checked with our benefits dept at work today. It would cost almost $20 a month for the premiums for me to have $88,000 in life insurance, and Sadegh would only be able to get $25,000 in coverage (unless I go up one more level of coverage, at a higher premium rate).

This is way less benefit and higher cost than the individual plan we were looking at, where Sadegh would get $100,000 coverage for about $17 a month. My $44,000 coverage at work would still be free.

It doesn't look like the employer is the way to go here.

It just popped into my head. Have you tried your bank? BoA is always pushing insurance offers that I ignore. Pretty sure Life Insurance is one of them.

Also I have ADD Accidental Death or Dismemberment, through work. Only about $5/month for $300k coverage.

Funny you mention banks, Rich! The reason I thought of looking into it again was an ad from Wells Fargo offering life insurance. Once I looked into it, their term was only 7 years for the good premium price. When I looked into 20 or 30 year term, the premium price went up. That made me look into others, which is when I found the grumpy "no speak English" guy. LOL
