Licence and insurance for spouse in KY

Hello All,

My husband will be traveling a month behind me on an L2 visa. to Louisville KY.

I have a few questions.

The idea is that he will have a rented car for 2 weeks.

How can i get his SS card before he arrived.

Will it be easy to do the driving test/also the time is takes to book.
As if we have to wait for his SS card then he won't have a car to take the test in.

I do not drive so I am relying on my husband once he arrives.

Can i get insurance for the car before he arrives?
Do you get the insurance before the car, then go and get the car?
Can I register the car for him even though I do not drive?
Also how do you register a car?

sorry for all the questions

thank you
LT

You can't get his SSN prior to his arrival in the USA.

He can use his UK license until he can get a US one, but should get the US one as soon as possible.

The requirements for driver licences and car registration vary from state to state so you need to go to the KY Transportation Cabinet to see their requirements.

Look under the citizens tab.

You can't do much of anything until your husband arrives, and I sincerely doubt you will be able to register a car without a local license because generally states expect you to have a local license before you register a vehicle. If you buy from a dealer you should get a "temporary tag" good for 30 days.

If you are still in the UK, you should take a look at International Autosource, which sells cars to new immigrants based on their foreign credit history and US job. The catch is that you must sign the purchase contract and pay a deposit before you arrive in the US.
