Default LHR flight delays ?

OH e-mailed me. He was about to catch a flight from Heathrow and his take off was delayed because Pres. Bush is flying into LHR tomorrow and they were having a "dress rehearsal" (oh dear god !) and one of the runways had to be closed for a while.
Just checked his flight status and it is back on time, but thought I'd give a heads up to anyone flying in and out of heathrow tomorrow.

Thumbs down Re: LHR flight delays ?

Why couldn't he fly into one of the RAF bases and save a lot of people a lot of problems. Why does he have to go on this trip and waste a lot of fuel just to say he is leaving office. Surely video conferencing would suffice.

Because if he's in the country then there is more chances of embarrassing McCain.

and lets face it, McCain needs no help there.

... because he flies in a freaking 747 and I don't think that there are any RAF bases near London that can handle a 747 ...

Normal protocol would be to use RAF Brize Norton. They are perfectly capable of dealing with AF1.
Was talking to Dad yesterday and apparently it was like a motorcade in the air.
AF1 and another plane and 4 helicopters.
OPs partner was lucky. There were flights cancelled apparently.

Post Re: LHR flight delays ?

My husband was on the redeye last night into LHR. It was 191 minutes late on arrival.

However....the delay was due to heavy thunderstorms in the New York area last night and although the plane had pushed back from the gate for a 6.30pm departure, it didn't take off until 9.40pm.....and the BA flight which was due to depart 3 hours after his flight actually took off immediately behind it!

He was not a happy bunny.....he called me at 7.30am this morning and said that he couldn't get into his room at the hotel as they were still cleaning it...

Oh well, it's Father's day and his gift from our daughter whom he's meeting up with today is that she is apparently taking him to some salon/spa place for a massage....

If I was the rest of the world, I wouldn't even invite Bush to a videoconference.

OH flew out of heathrow this a'noon (GMT) to Madrid and was warned there will be delays, cause of Bush. Couldn't figure out from his short message if it was Madrid side or London, now I know.

I should have explained further.....we had to leg it to LHR so that he could fly from there instead, and that flight (LHR - SAN) was fine. No delays, no extra security etc. That was terminal 3 though.
