Default Leaving the UK for good - Do you keep UK bank account?

I've been saving up for a number of years so that I can emigrate to the States. I plan to secure a job there before I move out of course and don't plan to move any time soon (meaning in the next five years). So this may sound like a premature and maybe even stupid question but I was wondering what people do with their national bank account when they leave that nation for good?

Do you keep it along with opening a new one abroad for the new USD income you acquire? Is it necessary to keep it?

Sorry if this is a seemingly straightforward question but I really am clueless here

Thanks in advance
