LEAVING ON FRIDAY
Our house is nearly empty, sold a lot of furniture on Craigslist and donated some to Goodwill. We have put a few personal things in storage and the rest is being shipped over by UPakWeShip. This is great, they deliver what looks like an enormous cardboard box on a pallet, you fill it with packed smaller boxes, etc., then they come and pick it up and deliver it to you the other end. Great service, and they walked us through the paperwork, no problem.
Would definately recommend them. 1-866-868-6386.
Our flight to Heathrow leaves Newark at 7:30pm. We will leave Charleston on Thursday, and spend the night in Virginia then onto Newark. Our dog has to be "dewormed" on Wednesday and we have to drive her paperwork to Columbia to be stamped. We are doing it all ourselves, and our vet has been wonderful. We have hired a customs broker who has been very helpful, as have the employees of Continental/United at Newark. I think this has been the most stressful thing about our move so far.
We have lived in the US for over thirty years, and we are going back to Devon. We have rented our house to a nice couple here in Charelston, and are hoping to rent a furnished house in Devon, we have a home that we like, just have to meet with the owner and sign the paperwork.
Full of different emotions at this time, sad at leaving our family here and friends, excited to set out on new adventures (especially at our time of life), eager to see the differences in England since we left and the differences between life in the UK and US. Can't wait for some decent TV, radio, cream tea, marks and spencer shopping, lovely walks on the moors, and laughing with friends and family (a good old belly laugh).
Will update on our arrival.
Would definately recommend them. 1-866-868-6386.

Agree re decent TV (although BBC iPlayer & a VPN has helped for TV here , and I have streamed BBC Radio 4 on the internet since 2001 :-), M&S - and don't forget Waitrose.
Home and family are always a strong pull - although 30 years is a long time to leave behind.

Well done Whatshername.
When you get the delivery from Upak take loads of pictures I'm having a hard time imagining puttin everything in a cardboard box on a pallet
I have measured stuff up and we could get away with a couple of those if they can hold up to the shipping. Did they put a weight limit on it or just size limit?

Do you think that by renting out your house in South Carolina that you will move back there one day? Or is your move to Devon intended to be permanent?
Don't forget to post your flight numbers on the Flight Tracker (the 'green sticky' at the top of this page!)
All the best for a safe and smooth journey home!

Re: LEAVING ON FRIDAY
Bon voyage, Whatsername! They`re holding the Olympic games in your honour to celebrate, what could be better?
I came back on the Queens Jubilee and they`d hung out the bunting!
I hope it all goes smoothly. We are back in our old house and the furniture hasnt even left the US yet. I will be calling this the summer I camped in my own house. Have put on weight eating all those foods I`ve missed!
Good luck, keep us informed how it goes!
