At Last!!!!
Haven't been able to get in here for the longest time. Tried emailing expats but never got any reply. For some reason my old user name had all rights to post or reply taken away - all I could do was read. It wouldn't let me sign up as someone else either because it said the email address was already in use - by ME!
Anyway, got another email address and here I am - back in business.

Hallooooo! Thanks for all the nice messages.
Can't remember when I last updated anyone so for anyone interested...
Finally got a full time job at one of the colleges - was working part-time at a college and part-time at Starbucks. The coffee was great but it was exhausting running from one thing to the other - literally!
Kids are doing great - Joy got the outstanding student award for fourth grade just before they broke up for summer, along with a heap of other awards, and Lizzy got high honors too. (Forgive the boasting of a proud mum/mom). Joy's math teacher asked me, what do they do in at schools in England - she's so different. I told her they go to school for shorter days, have more playtimes (kids at the school here get 15 minutes play at lunchtime and a bit of extra time on Friday if they've been good and that's it), much fewer tests, and get a week off every seven or eight weeks. She laughed.
Finally got a car loan (and car!) - I think I mentioned all that in the insurance thread but hey. Four of us have been fitting into a two-seater truck since Christmas and for the whole of our first year here we were on Shanks's Pony, which was NOT FUNNY in the Dallas heat. Damn glad to have five seats, a/c etc but a little worried about getting squished by all those scarey drivers here in Dallas. I HATE the interstates.
We're pretty much finally settled. Seemed a lot to plough through at the time but looking back it didn't take that long - a year and a half to change everything about our lives!
