Default Large, attractive bag (that's also practical)

Hey Everybody,

I'm moving to NYC in a couple of weeks and I'm one bag short. I want to get something gorgeous like this:

Khaki Canvas & Smooth Cognac Calf Leather

I want to buy a bag that looks incredible, like the above; is quality and will last; is a little bigger (that's a touch small considering it's checked and not cabin); except has wheels and a pull out handle (so it's practical). It is at that latter hurdle at which the above bag falls short.

I know it's also a little pricey and I'd love to find something like that a bit cheaper but I'm ok to pay if it is quality/lasting/has a great warranty.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Leo

I would never buy a travel bag made of light coloured canvas.

Yes, I was thinking it would only be good for one trip.

You see...women are much more practical (and sensible) than you men.

Can't really help you with hand luggage as I hate carrying bags aroung the airport. I prefer to check all mine.

Keep in mind if you are planning to travel a lot domestically in the US, some of the airlines make you check your carry on at the gate so it'll end up being thrown in the hold with all the others. So you might not be able to take as good care of it as you think you will.

And here I was thinking from the title that this thread was going to be all about wives!

Seeing "practical" in the title should have given you a clue.
You know the ol' saying .... if its too good to be true....

I've been using one of these LL Bean canvas duffle bags for 20 years and it's still the only piece of luggage I use. It works for carry on and is practical as it stops you from over packing. Pity LL bean doesn't sell them anymore.

Thanks for the replies folks!

Just to reiterate a couple of points:

- It's for checked luggage, not carry-on i.e. large in size
- It needs wheels/handle for practicality (a shoulder strap as well gets bonus points)

Cheers!
Leo

My GF has this Tommy Hilfiger Rolling Duffel which was something like $300 and looks awful in this picture but is beautiful and quality in the flesh - and - has wheels/handle. It's a bit too small for what I'm after but I still dig it.

If you are going to check it...I would buy a 4 wheel polycarb suitcase. They are sturdy, lightweight and you can push them along with a couple of fingers.
