Landlords insurance
 

Hi there

Can anyone recommend a good company for landlords insurance? I've been doing a few searches the last few days but a lot of them seem to not offer policies to non-residents (UK residents, that is).

Good question that I need an answer to too! Think though that if it is only uk residents I will have to put it in the name of a family member. They won't mind but it is a hassle for me :thumbdown:

I can't remember exactly who the policy was underwritten by and never had any cause to claim, so cannot comment on how good they would be in that instance, but I had no problem with being in the US and getting cover.

We use the Halifax they charge roughly double what normal homeowners insurance would be. They need to be notified if the property is vacant for more than 60 days. After that the property must be inspected every two weeks by someone over 18. They are aware we live in the USA.

We use Simply Business too, for the buildings insurance on our UK property. You get a choice of policies to pick from when you've entered all your info. Have never had any problems with them, but never had any reason to make a claim. We still have a UK credit card and put the premiums through on that card. They also send us an email before the insurance is due to lapse so we can sort it out before it expires.

We use a parents' mailing address to get the policy documentation sent to - I suppose we could have use our letting agents instead.

We use Direct Line, we've had a great policy with them for 4 years now, costs us under 20gbp a month and covers most things including temporary accommodation if the tenants have to move out while repairs are being carried out...

we are using "just landlords" they were the cheapest with a good comprehensive policy. We looked at direct line and they are good too, but the only thing I was "concerned" about is they dont covert you against any malicious damages that can be made by the tenant, and for a little bit cheaper, just landlords did cover that
