Landline phones work?
We're moving to the U.S. and wondering if our U.K. corded and cordless phones will work in the U.S. IF we have the correct voltage regulator (a step-up device) and plug adapter.
Thanks!

Welcome to Expats
Why would you want to bring them? They are dirt cheap here save the hassle.

Is there usually spam at this site?
Anyway, I own a nice phone and handset. A step-up costs about 5 pounds and I already own the plug adapters. On Ebay, a corded/cordless combo like the type I own can be had -- with shipping -- for about 30 pounds. That is cheap I grant you (considering I'd have to spend 10 on the step-ups), but I'm still asking the question.
I'll guess I'll see if the U.S. telephone companies know the answer.

It's usually gotten rid of pretty quickly. Where are you seeing it?
You could always RTFM for the phone... you'll need a different plug than the UK one (the phone plug) but it may have come with an RJ45 anyway (I think that's what they're called).

Wow, they did get rid of the spam pretty fast!
Thanks for the reply but I did RTFM and it did not say. Called the company that made the phone and they didn't know.

If the company that manufactured it doesn't know then who does?! Generally, as Ash was saying, it's usually easier just to buy a new electrical item over in the US. You presumably have something more than a basic phone so maybe that doesn't apply so readily.
Mind you, many people don't even bother with a landline these days, it seems. Maybe you need one though, eg working at home.

Give it away to a friend and buy a new one when you get here. You'll feel better about it
Even better, get Skype or Vonage and don't even thing about getting an (overpriiced) phone line. Many people manage with cellphones only or calls via skype or vonage handset. We have a Skype handset on our local home network. Its great - but honestly we could easily do without it and use cellphones. call prices are same for landlines and US. All included on your minutes cross network.
